How it works

The bookmarklet is a small JavaScript program stored as a bookmark link. Clicking it runs the script on whatever page is open. It drives the page's scroll position with requestAnimationFrame so the motion stays smooth regardless of the site's own scroll behavior.

In Realistic mode, each burst of scrolling is eased in and out and lasts a random duration, then pauses briefly before the next burst - the same rhythm a person scrolling with a trackpad produces. In Steady mode, the page moves at one constant speed with no pauses, which reads as more mechanical but perfectly even. Either way it automatically stops once it reaches the bottom of the page, or when you click the bookmark again.

How to use it

Frequently asked questions

What is the Smooth Scroll Tool?It is a free browser bookmarklet that automatically scrolls any webpage at a smooth, even pace, so you can record clean, professional-looking scroll-through videos of a website without scrolling by hand.
Do I need to install anything? No. It is a bookmarklet, not an extension or app. You drag one button to your browser's bookmarks bar and click it whenever you want to auto-scroll a page. Nothing is installed and no data leaves your browser.
What is the difference between Realistic and Steady mode?Realistic mode moves the page in short eased bursts with natural pauses in between, mimicking how a person scrolls. Steady mode glides down the page at a constant speed with no pauses, which suits very clean, mechanical showcase footage.
Which browsers does it work in?The bookmarklet works in any modern browser, including Chrome, Safari, Arc, Edge, and Firefox.
How do I stop the auto-scroll?Click the same bookmark again while it is running. It also stops automatically once it reaches the bottom of the page.
Can I change the scroll speed after creating the bookmark? The speed is baked into the bookmarklet's link when you drag it. If you want a different speed, adjust the slider on this page and drag a new bookmark to replace the old one.
